Course Description

The Institute for the Science of Early Years and Youth (ISEY), University of East London, is offering a two-day beginner-level course for psychologists and researchers with no prior experience in AI or Machine Learning (ML), who are interested in exploring how these technologies can enhance psychological research.

This course introduces the core concepts of AI alongside hands-on applications that demonstrate how AI-based methods can be used in psychology research to extract meaningful patterns from multimodal data. Participants will learn key machine learning ideas in accessible terms and engage in guided Python tutorials to work with physiological signals, audio recordings, and video. Real-world examples—such as detecting facial expressions, analysing speech features, or monitoring activity patterns—will illustrate how AI can transform data into insights.

By the end of the course, participants will:

  • Understand key AI and ML concepts.

  • Gain practical experience working with multimodal data.

  • Acquire hands-on skills with AI tools and techniques applicable to psychology research.

The course emphasizes exploration and methodology, providing a solid foundation for researchers to begin integrating AI into their own studies.
